GMC Provisional Registration
All F1 doctors in training must hold a provisional licence to practice to take part in an approved Foundation Year 1 Programme in the UK.
However, F1 doctors who hold provisional registration are not subject to Revalidation.
You can hold provisional registration for a maximum of 3 years and 30 days.
If you are not in training or want to take a break you should speak to the GMC about temporarily giving up your provisional registration.
UK Graduates
All final year students on UK medical degree programmes are to apply for provisional registration.
UK students receive an email invite directly from the GMC, as well as a text message (where a mobile number has been provided) alerting them to the opening of the application process.
International Graduates
International graduates who have been allocated an F1 place are required to apply for registration as soon as possible. Further information can be be found on the GMC website for international applicants: Provisional registration for international medical graduates - GMC (gmc-uk.org).
