MSK Core Skills Workshop

Course/Event Date: Thursday, September 11, 2025

Course/Event Duration: 1 Day

Course/Event Description

Versus Arthritis are delighted to confirm our MSK Core Skills workshop is happening again in Glasgow at Golden Jubilee Hotel on September 11th, the workshop flyer is attached, and we do have a limited fund to support travel/accommodation bursary for remote, rural, Island delegates.  Versus Arthritis are dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions, and deliver a range of training programmes for health care professionals

We often hear that MSK consultations can be challenging for both patients and healthcare professionals. With one in seven GP consultations related to MSK health, we're committed to ensuring these interactions are effective and beneficial for everyone involved.

In response to these challenges, we offer our well-established Core Skills in Musculoskeletal Care Workshop and MSK Bitesize training sessions.

This year our face-to-face Core Skills workshop will be delivered in Glasgow with an online MSK Bitesize session following this for all delegates.

  • Core Skills Workshop: Thursday 11th September 2025, 9am-5pm at Golden Jubilee Conference Centre, Beardmore Street, Glasgow, G81 4SA (in-person)
  • MSK Bitesize: Thursday 23rd October 2025, 6-9pm (online) recorded and available to delegates if unable to attend.

Core Skills is a practical program designed to equip primary healthcare professionals with the confidence and expertise to accurately diagnose and manage MSK conditions. Our training provides delegates a supportive environment to develop confidence and skills in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with MSK conditions. For a detailed overview of the workshop curriculum, please visit: Training courses for healthcare professionals

The workshop is split into three main sections:

  • Low back pain and sciatica.
  • Lower limb (with a focus on the knee).
  • Upper limb (with a focus on the shoulder).

 Key learning outcomes:

  1. Enjoy MSK consultations.
  2. Identify the prevalence of MSK conditions in primary care.
  3. Gain confidence in taking an effective history from an MSK patient, including eliciting red flags and psychosocial flags.
  4. Demonstrate understanding of examination of the MSK patient, including the discriminating features of the examination.
  5. Practice explanation of the diagnosis.
  6. Formulate a management plan, including appropriate investigations, referral, safety net and follow-up.
  7. Signpost patients to useful information.

Previous delegates reported a 47% increase in knowledge of the subject following the training, a 30% increase in examination skills, and a 31% increase in confidence diagnosing and treating patients with MSK conditions.

Delegate testimonials include:
