I am delighted to tell you that registration for the 2023/24 RCSEd and Medtronic Surgical Skills Competition is now open.
As you may know, The College runs an annual surgical skills competition for UK-based medical students. This is one of the jewels in our crown. After refreshing the 2021 competition we have decided to run the heats virtually again this year and we will have Grand Final here at the College on Saturday 16th March 2024.
We plan to run the 2023/24 competition in three phases. Firstly, we will encourage all medical students, no matter which year they are in, to complete an on-line quiz. The top scoring students from each medical school will be sent a surgical skills kit which contains instruments, ties, sutures and 3D printed organs (skin and small bowel). The students will then have access to instructional videos and will be tasked with making a video recording of themselves performing these tasks. They will then then upload their videos to be marked. The top marked medical student from each University will be invited to attend the final at the College on the 16th March 2024.
