GMC Provisional Registration

  • All F1 doctors in training must hold a provisional licence to practise in order to take part in an approved F1 Programme in the UK. 

  • You can hold GMC provisional registration for a maximum of 3 years and 30 days. 

  • F1 doctors who hold GMC provisional registration are not subject to revalidation.

  • If you wish to temporarily give up your registration, you should contact the GMC direct.

UK Graduates 

  • All final year students on a UK medical degree programme must apply for GMC provisional registration.

  • UK students will receive information about the application process directly from the GMC.  

International Medical Graduates

When should I connect to my Designated Body?

  • Your connection to your designated body, Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland) on the first day of your training programme. You should remain connected until your last day of training in Scotland. 

  • You can complete this through your GMC Connect account.
