Neurodiversity in the Workplace

Join us to learn about neurodiversity in the workplace, and the experiences of medical trainees

“Neurodiversity acknowledges that each person’s brain is unique. Our brains work and interpret information differently and we all bring individual experience, strengths, and assets to a situation.” - Royal College of Nursing, Neurodiversity Guide for Employers and Students, 2022

We are delighted to invite you to join a seminar to raise awareness about neurodiversity in the workplace, and to hear about the findings from a recent survey undertaken with medical trainees about experiences in the workplace and the impact this has had on mental wellbeing. Priya Sharma (Scottish Clinical Leadership Fellow) will be joining us to share her recent work on neurodiversity and mental health among trainees.

Tuesday 16th April

11:30am-12:45pm

The session will be chaired by Professor Nitin Gambhir (Lead Dean Director, NES) and will include the opportunity to hear about what support is available to trainees through the Training Wellbeing and Support Service. While the seminar will share findings from our medical colleagues, it is relevant to all of us whether we are educators, line managers or colleagues.

  • There will be opportunities for questions and if you would like to send a question in advance then please email nes.equalityteam@nhs.scot.

Where can you access other learning and support about neurodiversity before the event?

  • It is Neurodiversity Celebration Week 18th-24th March and there are free learning events which you might be interested in. See Neurodiversity Celebration Week.
  • Take a look at the recording of a learning session on neurodiversity, hosted in December 2022 with the Royal Collage of Nursing: Learning session on neurodiversity.
  • For NES staff we also have a Disability, Long-term Conditions, Neurodiversity and Mental Health staff network. The network provides peer support to staff but also is open to all staff who wish to support the network and create an inclusive workplace environment at NES. You can find out more at: Staff Equality Networks.
  • For NES trainees, there is now also a new network on neurodiversity for NES Doctors and Dentists in Training. If you are interested in joining, please contact Jane Duffy (duffy@nhs.scot) or Priscilla Marongwe (priscilla.marongwe@nhs.scot).
