Academic Training
There is a strong tradition of academic excellence and training in Scotland in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
All trainees are encouraged to explore academic aspects of training, to have an enquiring mind and to value and critically evaluate research. The RCOG curriculum is clear about the important role of academic development of all training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Some trainees may wish to take time out of programme to complete a period of research (OOPR) and may wish to train formally as an academic and clinician concurrently. SCREDS (Scottish Clinical Research Excellence Development Scheme) Lectureships provide an integrated training and career development pathway enabling clinicians to pursue concurrently or sequentially academic and clinical training within the NHS. In addition Clinical lectureships are appointments made by universities with the support of the Post Graduate Dean providing clinical training alongside academic development. More information is available via the links below
