Criteria
For Initial Recognition
Undergraduate Teachers must meet the requirements for their Medical School role.
Postgraduate Trainers must satisfy the Minimum Standards for Recognition. Namely:
- Evidence of 'Induction' training for the role eg Trainer Workshop ( PSDS Trainer Workshop | Scotland Deanery ) or similar
- Appropriate time in their job-plan for the role
- Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training must be up-to-date and in line with Employer requirements.
Since January 2026 there is NO LONGER a requirement for Re Recognition of trainer status. This was previously in a 5 year cycle linked to revalidation . However, trainers must ensure they still comply with requirements for recognition set out in the framework. Education Organisers eg Universities, and Health Boards can use their own local process to ensure that trainers they recognise meet these criteria. It is agreed that all recognised trainers should continue to discuss their education role(s) at appraisal and consider their development against the AoME framework below
