- Please note that you are required to be registered with a licence to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) throughout the duration of your employment.
Skilled Workers Sponsorship
- NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is responsible for issuing a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS) for those requiring sponsorship.
- Where NES is not the employer, the issue the COS on behalf of the employer. Please see here for more information.
Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG)
- The Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme is managed by Disclosure Scotland. It helps ensure people who are unsuitable to work with children and protected adults cannot do regulated roles with these groups.
- All Foundation doctors allocated to Scotland must complete a PVG form as part of pre-employment checks and your PVG must in place ahead of starting the shadowing and induction period with your employer.
Overseas Work
- If you have spent time working outside of the UK prior to starting this post, you must provide a copy of your criminal record check for your time spent abroad.
- If you have worked in multiple countries outside of the UK, you must provide a copy of your criminal record check from each country you have worked in.
- Details of how to obtain a check from the relevant authorities abroad.
- If a country is not listed, please contact the relevant embassy or consulate for further details.
- You should submit a copy of your criminal record check(s), with your completed PVG application form and ID documents.
Medical Indemnity
- You are normally covered by the NHS Hospital and Community Health Services indemnity against claims of medical negligence arising from the course of this employment.
- In certain circumstances (especially in services for which you receive a separate fee) you may not be covered by the indemnity.
- Foundation doctors are covered by NHS indemnity for clinical negligence claims arising from their work however we would encourage all Foundation doctors to maintain membership of a medical defence organisation in line with the circular above.
