Simulation Strategy

What is the simulation strategy?

In August 2019, when Internal Medicine Training (IMT) stage 1 replaced Core Medical Training, the IMT simulation strategy was launched.  Its overarching aim remains to embed evidence-based educational practice to enhance skills, improve efficiency and augment patient safety.  The training package addresses key curricular requirements that would most benefit from a simulation-based approach, addressing a wide range of technical and non-technical skills in increasingly complex and challenging contexts.

Each year IM Stage 1 trainees are invited to attend an intensive simulation-based course that aligns to their specific curricula requirements and level of experience.  The courses are:

IM1: Boot camp (3 days), hosted at the Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors in Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert

IM2: Skills day (1 day), hosted at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Suttie Centre, Aberdeen

IM3: Registrar ready (2 days), hosted at the Scottish Centre for Simulation and Clinical Human Factors in Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert
