Core Skills in Musculoskeletal Care Workshop

Course/Event Date: Monday, October 7, 2024

Course/Event Duration: 1 Day

Course/Event Description

Versus Arthritis are really excited to be bringing our award winning MSK Core Skills workshop back to Glasgow this October.  Last year's course was oversubscribed with many on the waiting list. We do currently have places left on the course but are expecting it to be fully booked, so don't miss out and secure your place today before it's too late.

The 'Core Skills in Musculoskeletal Care' workshop provides a supportive environment for primary healthcare professionals to develop confidence and skills in the diagnosis, treatment and management of patients with MSK conditions.  In a recent external evaluation the net promoter score for the workshops was 93.5, regarded as world class and 99% of participants said the training met their learning needs. Feedback from participants also suggests they are now processing fewer referrals for imaging, physiotherapy and orthopaedic assessment and making changes to their prescribing practice.

'This course exceeded my expectations, the content and delivery was very relevant to my role, so much so I have used the information for 3 patients already this morning' Core Skills Delegate - September 2023 'I have gained confidence in dealing with back pain and shoulder pain and the tips given on communicating what is going on with OA were great. Today I have been able to reassure a patient about her back pain and what treatments and exercise would benefit her' Core Skills Delegate - September 2023

The workshop is split into three main sections:

*       Low back pain and sciatica.

*       Lower limb (with a focus on the knee).

*       Upper limb (with a focus on the shoulder).

 Key learning outcomes:

  1. Enjoy MSK consultations.
  2. Identify the prevalence of MSK conditions in primary care.
  3. Gain confidence in taking an effective history from an MSK patient, including eliciting red flags and psychosocial flags.
  4. Demonstrate understanding of examination of the MSK patient, including the discriminating features of the examination.
  5. Practice explanation of the diagnosis.
  6. Formulate a management plan, including appropriate investigations, referral, safety net and follow-up.
  7. Signpost patients to useful information.
